WEST VIRGINIA WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
West Virginia is beautiful and has some incredible hiking. I really want to photograph an elopement on a mountain peak, old steam train, beautiful overlook, or a fire tower. These unique locations are not for everyone, but for the right couple these are amazing.
This webpage is my effort to make my wishes known. I want to shoot these cool West Virginia locations which I have researched, visited, and which captured my imagination.
I am offering a discount on select West Virginia wedding locations including:
- Blackwater Falls State Park
- Dolly Sods
- Seneca Rocks
- Spruce Knob and Spruce Creek
- Cass scenic railroad
- Big Schloss
- Thorny Mountain Fire tower
Some of these locations require hiking, all of them are remote, all require special planning and extra work to photograph well. All these locations offer dramatic views.
BLACKWATER FALLS STATE PARK
This is an easy choice for a larger wedding. I have seen weddings of all sizes here, from opulent big tents to hiking elopements on an overlook. A really nice time to visit is during the rhododendron bloom in early July. Blackwater Falls has every amenity, including an on site hotel, rentable cabins that are great if you have a lot of guests visiting, camping, and it's not far from the towns of Thomas, WV and Davis, WV that offer many more options for accommodations and food.
Considered one of the most unique ecosystems of the East Coast, Dolly Sods sits atop a plateau and requires a rigorous hike. This location is therefore excellent for well prepared, experienced hikers. The very first steps into the plateau require traversing a river, and you go up from there!
A unique geological formation, Seneca Rocks is a special location for a wedding. The short 1 mile hike to the summit is worth the views, there are venues nearby that can be used for a reception.
The highest location in West Virginia, Spruce Knob has incredible views and numerous locations for a micro wedding. Be fair warned, however, that it can be a windy location.
CASS SCENIC RAILROAD
The State of West Virginia turned this old mining town into a unique venue where you can stay the night (or two), living like miners used to do. Included in this restoration is an old steam train. It's a quaint place for a very unique wedding for some train buffs!
THORNY MOUNTAIN FIRE TOWER
There is one fire tower on the East Coast that can be rented/reserved for the night, and it's very hard to get a reservation. I was lucky and have a reservation on Monday September 13th. I am happy to donate this
